Brown Rudnick IP head joins Irwin Mitchell

Irwin Mitchell has boosted its intellectual property practice with the appointment of Brown Rudnick’s IP head Georgie Collins.

Collins, who joins as senior IP partner, is the twelfth business partner to join the firm in the last 12 months.

Prior to Brown Rudnick, Collins was head of IP at Lawrence Graham. She specialises in all aspects of protection, commercialisation and enforcement of IP rights, with a particular focus on cross border disputes.

Irwin Mitchell chief executive of business legal services Niall Baker said “This was an opportunistic hire. We got Georgie’s CV through and it was great so we met with her and within three weeks we’d done a deal”. He confirmed that the firm will continue to build the BLS team, adding “there will certainly be more to come”.

The firm already has two non-contentious IP/IT lawyers in Leeds but Collins’ is the first member of the division with experience in IP/IT litigation and patent and trademark work.

A number of Irwin Mitchell’s lateral hires over the past year have been former DLA Piper partners including restructuring specialist John Vickery, Birmingham head of BLS Chris Rawstron (23 July 2013), and DLA real estate quartet Anita Weightman, Patrick Duffy, Tony Weightman and Roy Beckett (16 February 2013).
