Baker & McKenzie has hired the head of McDermott Will & Emery’s European M&A practice Mats Sacklén in an effort to bridge the corporate divide between London and Stockholm.
Sacklén, a former White & Case London-based partner, is qualified in both Swedish and US law and previously held a senior in-house legal position at the headquarters of power and automation technology group ABB in the 1990s. His hire is an attempt by Bakers to boost its corporate offering across Europe and in particular with regard to Nordic transactions.
Bakers’ global head of M&A and London head of corporate Tim Gee said Sacklén’s arrival would not only strengthen his firm’s pan-European M&A practice, but his background and experience from the Nordic region would also bolster the services the firm was able to provide to clients looking at inbound or outbound opportunities involving that region.
Sacklén’s diverse international practice focuses on cross-border M&A, divestures, joint ventures, privatisations, and debt and equity investments. He has acted on the sell-side and buy-side in a large number of deals, often in the context of a controlled auction involving private equity funds. Sacklén, whose clients include those in the energy, TMT, pharmaceuticals and general industrials sectors, also has extensive experience from acting on emerging markets-related matters. He will be based in Stockholm but will also spend time in London.
Over the last year, Baker & McKenzie has added 60 lateral partners in key practice areas and jurisdictions, bringing the total number of lawyers to more than 4,100 in 74 offices in 46 countries.
