Offshore firm Mourant Ozannes has launched in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), relocating one partner and hiring two lawyers from Ogier.
Jersey-based Michael Williams is relocating to the BVI to oversee the new operation. Ogier managing associates Rachael McDonald and Shaun Folpp will join Mourant Ozannes as partners.
Williams is BVI-qualified and focuses on banking and corporate work. McDonald joined Ogier’s BVI office six years ago from Clifford Chance, while Folpp will lead Mourant Ozannes’ BVI litigation practice. He was previously working in the Cayman Islands.
The move follows Mourant Ozannes’ launch in Hong Kong earlier this year (31 January 2012). Many Asian clients choose BVI structures for their investments and US litigation firm Kobre & Kim opened in the BVI in May this year as a response to the trend (16 May 2012).
Mourant Ozannes managing partner Jonathan Rigby said the firm was seeing increasing demand from clients and intermediaries for BVI legal services.
