Napier will work in Harbour’s investment and advisory team on matters including the business’s growth strategy, costs policy and help review cases for funding.

Other members of the investment and advisory team include former High Court judge Sir Gavin Lightman, Wragge & Co’s former London managing partner Nicola Mumford and Guildhall Chambers’ Stephen Davies QC.

Napier stepped down from Irwin Mitchell’s partnership earlier this year (16 January 2012) after 30 years at the firm. He was its senior partner for most of that time and was also its chairman, helping shape its growth and its route to becoming an ABS.

He has also played a leading role in influencing policy around litigation funding and conditional fee arrangements.

In a statement Harbour’s litigation funding head Susan Dunn said Napier would bring a “new dimension” to the company as the number of cases it was reviewing increased.

Third-party litigation funding is on the increase at present, with a number of funders increasing their capital (3 September 2012).
