General Electric (GE) has announced GE Capital general counsel Alex Dimitrief will replace Brackett Denniston as GE’s legal chief when the latter retires at the end of 2015.

Dimitrief will assume the roles of GC and senior vice present from the start of November having served the same roles at GE Capital since 2012.

The former Kirkland & Ellis partner has played a key role in GE Capital’s agreements to sell over $120bn in assets since April this year, in which it the company has regularly turned to Clifford Chance and Weil Gotshal on a variety of disposals.

Dimitrief replaces outgoing legal head Denniston, who was named GC and senior vice president in 2005.

He joined the company as vice president and senior counsel of litigation and legal policy in 1996, and was behind GE’s first-ever European M&A legal panel announced in 2007.
