Now the dust has settled on last month’s The Lawyer Management conference and awards, it’s time to take stock of some of the key themes that were raised during the day and evening.
And few were more interesting and potentially worrying than the spectre of cyber-crime and the issue of cyber-security in law firms.
It’s an issue The Lawyer will be focusing on in detail in the 28 October print edition and which was discussed at length during the Thomson Reuters roundtable. Notably Wragge & Co partner Derek Southall, one of the delegates at the roundtable, prompted the appearance of some extremely worried faces when he pointed out that, “in the legal IT industry security experts have been saying we should all assume there’s no such thing as a completely secure electronic communications device when people are traveling internationally”.
In this week’s issue of The Lawyer Management you’ll find an opinion piece by James Alexander, a cyber security partner at Deloitte, who warns that law firms should not underestimate the threat it faces.
