Hill Dickinson has expanded its London reinsurance practice through the hire of a two partners from US-firm Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti.
Partners Andrew Schütte and Neil Ellis specialise in insurance and reinsurance, particularly in the property, energy and casualty sectors. Both join as partners in Hill Dickinson’s new London office at Broadgate Tower.
Hill Dickinson head of insurance Ruth Lawrence said the double hire is intended to add weight to the London team, giving the firm greater momentum to expand in the London market.
London professional and financial risk head Jamie Monck-Mason said some insurance clients had become disillusioned by the legal offering in London following a spate of mergers in the sector, leaving a gap for full-service alternatives.
“What we want to do at the moment is build on the niche insurance practice we have in London, to complement the high volume more commoditised insurance work, historically done from our regional offices” Monck-Mason said.
The firm has been bulking up in London since moving into its Broadgate Tower office in July. It also still has an office in Mayfair housing the UK-base for the firm’s yacht practice, which recently expanded into Monaco (5 February 2013).
Most recently the firm hired two partners specialising in reputation management into its London based regulatory team. Hannah Basha and Magnus Boyd joined from PSB Law which closed its doors at the end of September (17 October 2013).
At the same time the firm appointed Kerman & Co commercial, regulatory and sports partner, Louise Millington-Roberts.
