DLA Piper recognised as a top patent litigation firm by Corporate Counsel

DLA Piper has been recognised by Corporate Counsel in the publication’s 2013 Annual Patent Litigation Survey, ranking fifth in the total number of new cases filed in 2012.

The firm was also ranked among the top 10 most active firms for both defence and plaintiff work.

Corporate Counsel’s list is determined by new federal district court patent cases filed in 2012. This number has increased 29 per cent from 2011, reaching 5,189 in 2012 — the highest number of new patent cases ever recorded.

A driver of this growth is the America Invents Act’s ‘anti-joinder’ provision, which limits the number of defendants that can be named in the same lawsuit.

Meanwhile, the US Patent and Trademark Office saw an 11 per cent increase in number of patents granted, according to the 2013 Patent Litigation Study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
