Taylor Wessing ramps up private client with Manches hire

Taylor Wessing has hired Manches partner Amanda Nelson and is relocating partner Ryan Myint to Singapore in key moves for its private client practice.

Nelson, a specialist in tax planning, is the latest in a stream of departures from Manches this year. Most recently divorce star Helen Ward quit the firm for Stewarts Law (19 September 2012).

Taylor Wessing’s private client head Mark Buzzoni said Nelson’s expertise fits well with the practice group. “We as a group generally are pretty much constantly looking, where it’s right, to expand the private client and private wealth offering here,” he added.

Nelson was made up to partner in August last year, a year after joining Manches.

Meanwhile, Myint will spearhead the development of Taylor Wessing’s international private client business in Singapore and South East Asia. The move follows the announcement that the firm had formed an association in Singapore with local firm RHTLaw (31 August 2011), giving it access to 60 lawyers in the region.

“We’ve taken a strategic decision as a firm with a substantial private wealth practice that we need to build a Far East practice, given the macro-economics that are happening,” said Buzzoni. “It seemd to us a great opportunity on the back of our expansion in Singapore.”

The move comes at a time when the number of high-net-worth individuals in Asia is booming and family businesses dominate.

In February Withers, another UK firm with a strong private client practice, confirmed it was launching in Singapore (17 February 2012), several months after first announcing the move.
