Indian firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co has hired the head of William Fry’s competition and regulation practice as a senior adviser.
John Handoll will be a senior advisor in European and competition law in Amarchand’s competition law practice. Until recently Handoll headed the competition team at Ireland’s William Fry, where he worked for 16 years.
Amarchand has a history of bringing in expertise from outside India to strengthen its practice and its management. Most recently, ex-Slaughter and May partner George Goulding was brought in as one of two external consultants on the firm’s management committee (20 February 2012).
In a statement Handoll said: “Competition law and policy is developing apace in India and I look forward to bringing my skills to bear on this exciting area.”
Amarchand competition head Pallavi Shroff said Handoll’s appointment was a “real coup” for the firm. Amarchand has 21 competition lawyers on its team.
