Cardiff-headquartered Morgan Cole is transferring its Bristol-based volume claims and catastrophic insurance teams, including five partners, to DAC Beachcroft while Berrymans Lace Mawer (BLM) has picked up a partner and seven staff from the firm.
The team transferring to DAC Beachcroft includes 35 fee-earners and 24 support staff. The five partners are: Deborah Bradley, Mark Bailey, Richard Ottley, Nick Mahoney and Zoe Morgan.
DAC Beachcroft said the team would transfer by Tupe, although it did not specify which client the firm had won from Morgan Cole to initiate the deal. Of those joining the firm 55 will be based in Bristol and the remaining five in Newport. The transfer is expected to complete on 24 January 2014.
Meanwhile, BLM has acquired Morgan Cole insurance partner Simon Cradick’s team, which includes and a team of five lawyers and two support staff. They will join BLM’s personal injury team in Cardiff on 16 December.
BLM expanded its London insurance teams with the establishment of a Lloyd’s of London desk in the summer (10 July 2013) and opened its first office outside the UK in Dublin at the end of last year (1 October 2012).
The moves are part of a strategy by Morgan Cole to refocus its insurance practice, leaving teams in place to act for general insurers, local authorities, health clients and self-insured businesses and brokers.
Morgan Cole managing partner Elizabeth Carr said: “The insurance claims handling market is a developing and evolving area of the legal sector”, citing the Jackson reforms and changing client requirements as the driver behind the move.
