Yorkshire-based ABS Minster Law is to launch a London office of 30 people in the City.
The personal injury firm was acquired by BGL Group, the owners of price comparison site comparethemarket.com, in May (31 May 2013) after Minster was given permission by the SRA to convert to an alternative business structure (ABS).
BGL said the move was aimed at underpinning Minster’s strategy to become a market leader in multi-track and catastrophic personal injury.
Minster was established in 2005 and has since made a name for itself as the largest road traffic accident personal injury practice in the UK.
The firm handled 60,000 personal injury claims in the financial year 2011-12 and has an extremely low profit margin when compared to more traditional law firms (15 August 2011). In 2011-12 Minster’s net profit was £2.2m, giving it a margin of 2 per cent.
Minster Law managing director Stuart Ramsey said: “Our serious cases can last for several years, so increasing our face-to-face contact and support will be invaluable to our clients. The new office also allows Minster to recruit from the London legal market.”
BGL Group’s legal services director David Downie added: “We are planning continued recruitment across all of our Minster Law sites in 2014.”
