Broseta becomes first Spanish firm to open in Switzerland

Broseta is launching a Zurich office, in what is thought to be the first move by a Spanish firm into Switzerland.

Partner Javier Morera will lead the new venture, which is designed to take advantage of the Swiss financial and wealth management industries. He will be accompanied by a senior associate when the office opens in December.

Morera said the firm was hoping to work with both Swiss banks and asset managers with Spanish clients, and Spanish high-net worth individuals or families using Swiss banks and structures. He added that there would also be synergies between Switzerland and clients from Broseta’s Latin American alliance firms (19 July 2013).

“The Swiss banking and asset management system is changing dramatically,” Morera added, referring to efforts to improve transparency which he said would generate work.

He said Broseta already has relationships with a number of Swiss firms, but was hoping to expand and work with a wider range of lawyers. Broseta will only practise Spanish law from Zurich.

Morera specialises in tax and private client law. Before joining Broseta in 2009, he headed up the tax team at former Nabarro alliance firm Rodes y Sala (16 September 2009).

Zurich is Broseta’s first office outside Spain. The firm appointed Luis Trigo as its first-ever managing partner earlier this year (9 October 2013).
