AusLSA report recognises Minter Ellison’s ‘reduce, recycle and reuse’ efforts

Minter Ellison has continued to ‘reduce, recycle and reuse’ during the past 12 months, according to the Australian Legal Sector Alliance’s (AusLSA) 2012–13 report.

The annual report on the environmental performance of AusLSA members measures electricity use, greenhouse gas emissions from business travel, paper use, the provision of recycling facilities and carbon offsetting.

Minter Ellison’s gross total emissions were down by 200t CO2e (or 3.5 per cent) in the past year, even though the firm launched an additional office during the reporting period and total floor area occupied across its offices increased by 5.5 per cent.

Even with a marginal increase in headcount over the period, the law firm’s emissions per head reduced by 4.0 per cent.

Among the initiatives Minter Ellison has implemented are PC sweeps to automatically shut down PCs overnight, double-sided printing, sensor lighting and energy-efficient light bulbs.

The introduction of TelePresence facilities in the law firm’s offices and an upgrade to its video conferencing network has led to a more than 12 per cent reduction in emissions from air travel and taxis.

Minter Ellison has been a member of AusLSA since 2011 and prior to that reported environmental performance under the Greenhouse Challenge Plus programme.
