No5 Chambers sponsored Birmingham Law School’s recent Postgraduate Mooting Cup. LLM student Richard Murtagh claimed victory.
The moot problem this year concerned the crime of theft. Murtagh had to argue that accepting a valid gift from a person with full mental capacity should not count as an ‘appropriation’ of property under the Theft Act — despite strong precedent to the contrary.
James Dixon and Walter Bealby, members of No5’s crime group, judged the moot.
