Eversheds construction expert Michael Conroy Harris has commented on news that dispute costs in the construction industry have risen, saying that it is important to deal ‘effectively and innovatively’ with disputes.
Conroy Harris noted that Eversheds’ recent report, Companies in Conflict: How commercial disputes are won, showed a general upward trend in major business disputes across the board during the last three years. He said that it wasn’t surprising to see this reflected in the construction sector, which has experienced a particularly difficult period.
He added: ‘The study by Arcadis shows some really interesting trends in global construction disputes in that, if we look at the overall average, the value of disputes has gone up in the last 12 months, yet the disputes have actually become shorter.
‘The prospect of the stakes becoming higher, at the same time as having to play the cards quicker, throws into sharp relief how important it is to deal effectively and innovatively with large-scale disputes.’
