Bevan Brittan, DAC Beachcroft and Mills & Reeve have won key contracts as part of a new slimmed down NHS Property Services panel, which launched on 1 May.
NHS Property Services consolidated its panel in a bid to cut costs by £1m over the next four years and will also make advisors available to sister company Community Health Partnerships.
The procurement process was divided into four specialist areas of corporate, human resources, central property and local property, with the latter the only one to require the appointment of more than one firm.
Bevan Brittan, DAC Beachcroft and Mills & Reeve were appointed sole providers for central property, human resources and corporate respectively.
NHS Property Services was set up to manage the estate that was previously managed by Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities, which were abolished in March 2013.
The company runs and manages 4,000 properties on behalf of NHS England and Clinical Commissioning Groups.
The new framework will also see panel advisers help to develop the organisation’s in-house capability, as part of its commitment to reduce spend year-on-year.
Chief executive of NHS Property Services Simon Holden said: “The terms of the framework will help us to improve the quality of advice received, avoid duplication and control legal spend more effectively. This will also help deliver the financial efficiencies required, which will be passed back to the wider NHS.”
Former health secretary Andrew Lansley announced in early 2012 that the Government was creating a property company – NHS Property Services Limited – to manage primary care trust buildings and land that would not transfer to NHS community providers as part of the sweeping changes ushered in by the Health and Social Care Bill.
A year later Bevan Brittan, Mills & Reeve and Wragge & Co were appointed to the Department of Health’s (DoH) property company panel, after the initial tender was abandoned due to mistakes by the DoH (13 February 2013).
