Mike Giles, who has been finance director at SJ Berwin since 1999, is leaving the firm to join Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW).
During the course of his tenure at SJ Berwin, Giles oversaw its transformation from a single-site London outfit to a 12 office international network.
He will start work at FFW next week (28 May).
Giles is the latest appointment to FFW’s executive committee, which has undergone a shake-up since the permanent appointment of Michael Chissick as the firm’s managing partner earlier this year. The committee now consists of nine partners and business service heads, who are tasked with managing the firm’s strategy and coordinating offices, practice areas and business service operations (21 February 2013).
Chissick said in a statement: “Mike’s appointment is indicative of the firm’s desire to attract and retain market-leading talent. He will bring a level of strategic thinking and leadership that will help us grow as a firm and realise our ambitions for the coming years.”
The announcement comes as SJ Berwin partners prepare to vote on whether the firm will merge with Asia-Pacific firm King & Wood Mallesons (20 May 2013). If the tie-up goes ahead, the name SJ Berwin will be scrapped. The merger could go live as early as this summer.
