A group of lawyers from the Swedish offices of Ashurst and White & Case have joined forces with the former managing partner of Hannes Snellman’s Stockholm office to form a corporate boutique.
The new firm, Baumgarten Byström Rooth & Tallavaara Advokater (BBRT), has been launched by Fredrik von Baumgarten, who served as managing partner of Swedish firm Vinge (10 March 2004) before moving to Nordic firm Hannes Snellman in 2008 to head up the Stockholm office.
Two partners from Ashurst in Stockholm, Jan Byström and Mats Rooth, are also joining the boutique. Rooth moved to Ashurst in 2007 from SEB Merchant Banking (5 December 2006), while Byström was recruited from Vinge in 2011 (2 November 2011).
The fourth partner at BBRT is Tuula Tallavara, who joins from White & Case in Stockholm where she was an associate. Like Rooth, she began her career as an associate at Vinge.
BBRT’s focus will be transactional work. Baumgarten, Byström and Tallavaara are all corporate and M&A specialists while Rooth focuses on finance and restructuring.
The founding partners plan to grow the firm to around 25 lawyers within one to two years.
While boutique launches have been common in the Benelux region, France and Germany in the past few years other parts of Europe have seen fewer spin-offs from large local and international outfits.
