Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has appointed Tetra Pak general counsel Maria Varsellona as its new legal chief following the exit of Joyce Norcini from the Finnish telecoms group.
Varsellona takes over on 1 July and will become its fifth general counsel since 2010, reporting to CEO Rajeev Suri. She will also sit on the executive board of the group, formed in 2007 as a joint venture between Nokia and Siemens.
Before heading food packaging business Tetra Pak’s legal team, Varsellona was senior counsel for commercial operations at General Electric Oil & Gas and was previously in-house at car rental group Hertz.
She replaces Gerwin Zott, who is currently acting general counsel and will retain the position until Varsellona join the company in Munich.
Predecessor Norcini moved to NSN from Hewlett-Packard in 2010, replacing Sirpa-Helena Sormunen, who served as acting general counsel following the departure of Kirsi Komi earlier in the year (30 July 2010).
Suri said in a statement: “Varsellona has extensive experience in global legal roles for multinational companies, including building and leading international teams of lawyers. She has the depth required to address legal requirements across our company, from customer-focused deal making to enhancing our corporate governance systems and enforcing our strict compliance policies throughout the organisation.”
