Latham & Watkins has secured the hire of three Shearman & Sterling partners to launch a Düsseldorf office, hot on the heels of Shearman’s decision to centralise its German presence in Frankfurt.
Düsseldorf-based partners Harald Selzner, Rainer Wilke and Martin Neuhaus are all moving to Latham, bringing experience in corporate work for a range of sectors. Wilke also practises in the field of PPP and restructuring.
Tax partner Thomas Fox and litigation partner Christine Gärtner will relocate from Munich to bulk up the new office. Fox, currently managing partner for Munich, will also take on the role of office managing partner for Düsseldorf.
Meanwhile Latham has also hired Munich arbitration and compliance partner Markus Rieder from Shearman in a continuation of the firm’s growth in Germany. Last month it announced the appointment of Allen & Overy partner Okko Behrends in Frankfurt (19 April 2013).
Shearman yesterday confirmed the new shape of its Frankfurt office, which will be a corporate, capital markets, finance, tax and litigation-focused hub. M&A partner Thomas König and tax partner Bodo Bender have been named German managing partner and deputy managing partner. M&A partners Georg Thoma and Alfred Kossmann and finance partner Winfried Carli are relocating to Frankfurt from Düsseldorf.
The firm announced the office closures a fortnight ago (23 April 2013), following several departures in Germany.
