Clark, who has worked for insurance broker Towergate since 2003, replaces former GC Charlotte Taggart after she left to become a corporate insurance partner with RPC in January (23 November 2012).

RPC was a regular advisor to the broker while Taggart was in the role, with employment head Cath Thorpe leading the team. The company has historically used a fairly lengthy list of external lawyers, with previous known advisers including Eversheds, Addleshaw Goddard and CMS Cameron McKenna.

Clark worked at Kent-based firm ASB Law for three years before joining Towergate in 2003 when it was still a fledgling insurance intermediary. During his time with Towergate it has grown to become one of Europe’s largest independent insurance brokers with a combined turnover of more than £2bn gross written premiums (GWP) annually.

Lockton CEO Mike Hammond welcomed Clark to Lockton, commenting that his work advising on transactions, commercial activities and all aspects of broking operations will be “invaluable” to the company.

Lockton initiated an LLP conversion in 2010, a project which led to Taggart being nominated for In-house Lawyer of the Year for The Lawyer Awards 2011.
