Nabarro has elected head of real estate Ciaran Carvalho as senior partner following a three-way contested election.

The elections came after incumbent senior partner Graham Stedman announced he will retire at the end of April.

Carvalho won a contested election in which he stood against corporate partner Iain Newman and head of dispute resolution Jonathan Warne.

This is the second time Carvalho has stood for the senior partner position after losing the role to Stedman in 2013. In a statement Stedman said he looked forward to working with Carvalho to “ensure a seamless handover”.

Carvalho said: “Our focus on four sectors, increasing the work we win from international clients, and a programme of change to refine how we provide our services, are central to the firm’s future success. Together I know we can secure that future and take the firm to new heights. This is an exciting time for Nabarro and it is a privilege to be the firm’s next senior partner.”

Since joining the firm in 2009 Carvalho has brought a number of clients to the firm including Lendlease, Urban&Civic, Angelo Gordon, Union Investment and Employees Provident Fund of Malaysia.
