Research from the 30% Club has revealed that women are failing to get to boardroom positions due to lack of recognition, rather than because of taking time off to have children. Eversheds believes the sponsorship approach is key to tackling the lack of women on boards.
John Heaps, chairman at Eversheds, said: ‘In any walk of life, at critical times in your career it’s important to have someone who will speak up for you; a person who will sponsor your interests when the key conversations are taking place.
‘That sponsorship approach, while fairly well known, is surprisingly underutilised. If adopted either formally or informally, I am confident it would have a significant impact on the problem identified by this research.’
