Osborne Clarke (OC) is mourning the death of longstanding partner Andrew Gowans, a member of its senior management team and a central figure in the firm’s development.
Gowans, a corporate lawyer, died following a long battle with cancer after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2001.
Despite the diagnosis, he embarked on developing OC’s Silicon Valley office, which he managed between 2003 and 2007. On his return to the UK, he established the firm’s regulatory and risk function.
OC senior partner Tim Birt said in a statement: “Andy was a good friend who will be sorely missed by all at OC, as well as by the many people he came into contact with through his work in the UK and US.
“He thrived on challenges and it’s difficult to overestimate the part he played in shaping the modern OC. The fact that he did so with energy, passion and insight during the 12 years he was suffering from a life-threatening condition speaks volumes about the sort of man he was. Our thoughts and sympathy are with Andy’s family.”
