The news comes after The Lawyer reported earlier this week that Collins, currently head of corporate finance, would take on the role as Bennett’s replacement (18 March 2013).

Bennett, corporate chief since the 2001 merger of Berwin Leighton and Paisner & Co, has been given the brief to oversee the firm’s growth overseas, with an initial focus on the US and China.

Meanwhile, recent recruit David Barnes will become head of corporate finance after joining last March from Linklaters, where he was a former global corporate head (27 February 2012).

The changes, both effective from 1 April, mean Collins will become a member of BLP’s board. He has been a partner at BLP since 1996 and a member of the its strategy group since 2001.

Collins said in a statement: “Continuing the upward momentum of our corporate practice remains a key strategic priority for the firm. BLP has made huge progress in recent years in the UK and internationally.

“Whilst economic conditions remain extremely challenging, I am confident that we can continue to gain market share in our chosen markets through a strategy centred on excellent client service, delivered by top quality people operating as a close-knit team.”
