But of the six firms shortlisted to take home the prestigious Corporate Team of the Year award, sponsored by Shilton Sharpe Quarry, which will walk away with a shiny new addition to their trophy cabinet (and arguably even better pic with Joanna Lumley) on Wednesday night?

The judging panel has faced some truly tough decisions this time round. Among the firms to win a spot on the shortlist are Slaughter and May for its work on Royal Mail’s IPO, and Macfarlanes for its advice to Verizon Communications on its record-breaking $130bn acquisition of Vodafone’s stake in Verizon Wireless.

Squire Sanders is in the running thanks to its instruction on the takeover of Fulham FC while Weil Gotshal has been acknowledged for its hand in the first-ever successful take-private by a private equity house in Switzerland.

Cleary Gottlieb provides more competition, having advised Rosneft on the biggest acquisition in Russian history, as does Taylor Wessing, which gave the UK’s REIT market a significant boost thanks to its storming success for client Tritax.

On Wednesday night, the winner will be revealed.
