No5’s Earl Pinnock defends cancer conman

Barrister Earl Pinnock from No5 Chambers recently defended Simon Williams, who has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting fraudulently obtaining cash.

Williams, 29, from Wolstanton, Staffs, told his family and friends that he had terminal cancer, and his mother, who believed he had only six months to live, set up a charity collection. He took £99.50 that was meant for a hospice.

After five months, Williams’ relatives became suspicious and approached the hospital, which confirmed he was not a patient.
