Italian firm NCTM has increased its privacy, TMT and finance strength by merging with Rome firm Panetta & Associati.
The move sees name partner Rocco Panetta join NCTM’s equity, while Giorgio Telarico and Domenico Rinaldi become salaried partners at the larger firm. Another five lawyers will also join NCTM.
Panetta founded the firm in 2008, having previously held a variety of public sector roles in the data protection and privacy sectors. Between 2001 and 2008 he was director of the Autorità Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali (Italian Authority for the Protection of Personal Data).
While the firm has a focus on TMT and data protection, it also provides advice in other areas such as structured finance – Telarico’s area of expertise. Meanwhile Rinaldi is a chartered accountant and auditor who specialises in tax planning.
Panetta said the firm had been searching for a larger merger partner, “in order to offer our customers more numerous and specialized services internationally”.
The bolt-on follows steady growth for NCTM, which this year made up three equity partners (29 May 2014) and four salaried partners (20 March 2014). The firm also bolstered its London office with the hire of Bonelli Erede Pappalardo finance partner Andrea de Tomas (6 March 2014).
In October NCTM picked up Lorenzo Attolico as a partner in its Rome IP practice, along with two associates, from R&P Legal (31 October 2013).
