European moves: 27 June 2013

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.


US firm McGuireWoods is expanding its Brussels competition and EU team with four lawyers, including one partner, from Squire Sanders (13 June 2013). Partner Vassilis Akritidis and senior associate Yves Melin, who is joining as a partner, are making the move along with senior counsel Alessandro Nucara and an associate.

White & Case has appointed Linklaters counsel Matthieu Duplat as a partner in its Brussels office. Duplat focuses on debt and equity capital markets.

Central & Eastern Europe

Romanian firm Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii has recruited the former co-managing partner of rival domestic firm Musat & Asociatii (25 June 2013). Catalin Baiculescu joined Tuca Zbarcea as a partner at the end of last week. Baiculescu moves firms after 15 years at Musat, where he held roles including co-managing partner and deputy managing partner. He previously worked alongside Tuca Zbarcea founding partner Florentin Tuca, who led a breakaway from Musat several years ago to set up his own firm.


Dechert has recruited a duo of lawyers from Orrick Rambaud Martel, including partner Matthieu Grollemund, to boost its corporate team in Paris (13 June 2013). Grollemund is joining Dechert along with associate Hélène Parent. The duo specialise particularly in private equity work.


Oppenhoff & Partner has recruited two more partners for its Frankfurt office, which is set to launch in August this year (13 June 2013). Competition partner Andrés Martin-Ehlers will join from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe while corporate partner Jérôme Friedrich has been recruited from Sidley Austin. Oppenhoff is also relocating two partners from its Cologne office to strengthen Frankfurt. Corporate partner Ronald Meißner and litigator Silvanne Helle will bring the number of partners in Frankfurt to five, reinforced by a team of associates.


Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira has announced that corporate partner Antonio Baena is replacing Iñigo Rubio as London managing partner (26 June 2013). Baena’s move is aimed at strengthening the firm’s M&A and corporate finance practice in the City. Corporate finance associate Ignacio Buil is joining Baena in London.


Mason Hayes & Curran has promoted employment lawyer Ger Connolly to partner. Connolly advises public and private sector employers on both contentious and non-contentious matters. He joined Mason Hayes last year as a senior associate.


Employment boutique Lablaw has appointed four new lawyers. Carlo Chiadini joins as a senior associate from Rinaldi & Associates, while Mario Gatti also joins as a senior associate, having previously worked at KPMG and Trifirò & Partners. Sara Tiraboschi moves to Lablaw having previously practised at Toffoletto and Carnelutti. All three will be based in Milan, while fellow new joiner Lucio Corsi will be in the Rome office.


Sweden’s largest firm, Mannheimer Swartling, is boosting its employment team with the hire of Linklaters’ local employment head Anders Nordström (25 June 2013). Nordström has been a partner and head of the Nordic employment team at Linklaters since 2001, and has also headed the firm’s Swedish litigation group in the past. He advises the state and corporates on general employment law, with a focus on litigation and arbitration.
