DLA Piper has been recognised for its property strategy implementation by National Grid in its annual property awards, in a ceremony held on 2 July 2014.
The award for Best Property Strategy Implementation is intended to recognise projects that have moved on significantly in the previous 12 months, with constraints being removed to prepare the relevant site for future sale. DLA Piper was named as the winner in this particular category for its work on National Grid’s site at Lostock Hall in Preston, which is earmarked for residential development.
DLA Piper’s work involved a complex set of negotiations, led by legal director Ben Taylor, with Lancashire County Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. The discussions were in relation to the acquisition of land to build a Cross Borough Link Road, unlocking the site for additional development. Emma Rodican-Jones, senior associate at DLA Piper, advised on the section 106 planning agreement required to prepare the site for sale.
Both transactions were signed on 31 March this year. The award was shared with Deloitte Real Estate and DTZ, which acted as planning advisers and sales agent respectively.
