Malaysia’s Zicolaw expands into Laos

Malaysia’s largest law firm Zicolaw has continued its regional expansion by adding a firm in Laotian capital Vientiane to its network.

Three-lawyer Vientiane Law Co, which is led by managing partner Viengsavanh Phanthaly, was founded in 2009 and focuses on foreign investment into Laos as well as IP and dispute resolution.

The firm is the third to be added to the Zicolaw network, which was set up in Kuala Lumpur in 1987 as Zaid Ibrahim & Co. In addition to having Zicolaw-branded offices in Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the firm operates as Zaid Ibrahim & Co in Australia and counts SokSiphana&associates in Cambodia and Roosdiono & Partners in Indonesia as members.

The addition of Vientiane Law Co means Zicolaw now has a presence in eight of the 10 countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, all except Philippines and Brunei.

The latest expansion comes after the firm last year opened in Myanmar (27 February 2013). The firm has just appointed Saw Yu Win as managing partner of that office. She takes over from Win Naing, who remains with the firm.
