Andrew Short’s practice centres on employment, pensions and discrimination law.
His employment practice covers everything from complex or sensitive dismissal and discrimination cases through TUPE to high-value contract and equal pay claims. Short was leading counsel for the successful claimants in the landmark decision of the Supreme Court in Abdulla v Birmingham City Council, which established the right of former employees to pursue equal pay claims in the civil courts. His pension work encompasses both private and public sector schemes and includes equalisation and other discrimination issues, preservation and revaluation, mistake, estoppel, construction, winding up, statutory protection upon business transfers, including Beckmann issues, applications before the Determinations Panel of the Pensions Regulator and complaints to, oral hearings before and appeals from the Pensions Ombudsman.
He also undertakes professional negligence work, often though not always related to employment or occupational pension schemes.
