Nesbitt, Tim

Tim Nesbitt has a practice specialising in regulatory and professional disciplinary law, public law and commercial law.

Tim Nesbitt

Within his regulatory and professional disciplinary practice Nesbitt particularly specialises in the defence of doctors in hearings before the General Medical Council, as well as before PCT disciplinary panels. This part of his practice also regularly encompasses work for nurses before the Nursing and Midifwery Council, dentists before the GDC, and solicitors before the SDT; and on appeals from those bodies.

The remaining parts of Nesbitt’s regulatory practice focus particularly on the regulation of the transport industry, health and safety, environmental law and financial services. He is particularly well known for his work in relation to the regulation of the transport industry, where he has for a long time been recognised as one of the two or three leading practitioners at the Bar, appearing in most of the leading cases in this field in the last decade. His work in this context ranges from public inquiries in the operator licensing system, through appeals from public inquiries, through to defending companies and directors on serious charges in the criminal courts (particularly corporate and gross negligence manslaughter). The health and safety and environmental work he undertakes often arises out of the transport industry, but he acts for all varieties of clients in these fields, and has particular experience in relation to the agricultural and waste transfer/disposal sectors.
