How energy efficient are you? DECC intends to find out

As part of its push for energy efficiency, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has begun consultation on its proposals for new energy-saving assessments. The consultation is intended to flesh out DECC’s new Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), the vehicle that it will use to implement the EU’s requirement to have a regime of regular energy audits for ‘large enterprises’.

Under article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU), all UK enterprises that have 250 employees or more, or those that have an annual turnover of €50m (£43m) and a balance sheet of €43m, will be required to have undertaken an energy audit by 5 December 2015, and then further reviews every four years…
