Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has promoted three London lawyers to partnership out of 12 worldwide, after making up no-one in the City last year.

City-based counsel Sophie Jermine was promoted to the firm’s partnership from the start of January and is part of Akin Gump’s cross-border transactions team. She joined Akin Gump after six years at Bingham McCutchen, which merged with the US outlet at the end of 2014.

Counsel David Sewell has also been promoted in the cross-border transactions team, having trained at legacy Squire Sanders & Dempsey between 2005 and 2007. He then joined Akin Gump as an associate in 2007, being promoted to counsel in 2013.

Litigation counsel Rosemarie Paul completes the London partner promotions trio, after acting as an advanced associate at the Financial Services Authority for three years. She was also a senior associate at Fieldfisher and previously worked at Kensington Swan in New Zealand.

The majority of the promotions come from the US, with New York and Dallas seeing two partners made up in each jurisdiction. Litigation lawyer Daniel Cohen has also been promoted in Hong Kong.

Out of the 12 promotions, a total of eight lawyers are male, with four women made up. In 2015 eight women were promoted out of 14.
