The latest edition of Eversheds’ quarterly publication, Pensions Agenda, is out. It summarises 10 key issues that UK pension plans and plan sponsors need to be aware of and, where appropriate, address in the coming months, including preparing for the introduction of same-sex marriages, the need to produce defined-contribution (DC) governance statements and considering the impact of the new Fair Deal guidance on new and existing public sector outsourcing contracts.
The government has announced that same-sex marriages in England and Wales will be able to take place from 29 March 2014, subject to Parliament’s approval. This is several months earlier than expected.
Resolution: decide your policy on the treatment of same-sex married couples in respect of survivors’ benefits and update your plan’s rules to reflect this. References to ‘marriage’ and related terms in plan rules also need to be updated…
