Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has turned to French corporate heavyweight Bredin Prat to strengthen its Paris M&A team, hiring partner Olivier Rogivue.
Rogivue was an associate at Bredin Prat’s best friend Slaughter and May before joining the firm in 2006, and is dual-qualified in France and England and Wales. He will be followed to Freshfields by Bredin Prat corporate lawyer Florent Mazeron, who will become a counsel when he arrives at the magic circle firm in February.
The hire marks the first partner departure from Bredin Prat for at least five years, although the firm has bade farewell to associates leaving for international firms or to set up boutiques. The firm has made a small number of lateral hires, including most recently Gide Loyrette Nouel restructuring partner Olivier Puech (10 January 2013).
Pisani said Rogivue’s arrival came at an important moment for the development of Freshfields’ corporate team in Paris. Rogivue added that he had worked alongside Freshfields teams on a number of transactions, and had come to appreciate the firm’s “entrepreneurial spirit” and “dynamism” in France.
The hire comes in an active week for the French recruitment market. Allen & Overy (9 January 2014) and August & Debouzy (8 January 2014) have both hired partners, while teams from two boutiques merged on Monday (7 January 2014).
