Baker & McKenzie is looking for a location to launch another low-cost legal centre following the success of its Manila back office.
The firm confirmed that it was “exploring options” for replicating the Manila model in other jurisdictions but emphasised that there was no timetable.
There has been no indication to where further outposts might be, though the firm has recently made efforts to deepen its relationships in Africa (25 November 2013). It has been present in Cairo for a long time, and in 2012 added Casablanca (25 July 2012) and Johannesburg (29 May 2012) to its office list.
The Manila outpost launched in 2000 and six years later formed a groundbreaking outsourcing deal with Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever (16 October 2006). The deal saw Baker & McKenzie take on the company’s entire trademark portfolio.
The firm now runs its help-desk for technology systems from the 24/7 back office, which also offers a service centre for marketing and BD and processing of internal services such as billing, time management and collections.
