Athenian construction boutique granted ABS

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has granted Athens-based Exarchou and Rosenberg International an ABS licence with effect from 1 March.

Exarchou and Rosenberg International currently runs its construction focused legal consultancy out of Athens but plans to relocate the headquarters to London, where the firm has three lawyers based at present.

The firm was founded by co-owners managing director Alexandros Exarchou and director George Rosenberg at the end of 2010.

Rosenberg qualified as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand and was at Shadbolt & Co until 2006, while Exarchou has legal qualifications but is not formally qualified as a lawyer.

A non-lawyer owned firm, it was not permitted to undertake reserved activities or describe itself as a law firm in the UK without the ABS license.

The firm recently recruited three lawyers to develop the London office and advance the its plan to establish a client base in the UK and leverage the business off the international reputation of the English legal system.

“We have three lawyers in the London office and hope that we will start accumulating clients there and then build on that office,” said Rosenberg, adding: “There is prestige in being a London law firm”.
