Dentons has promoted three to partner in the UK, Middle East and Africa (UKMEA) amid its global promotions round, after turnover in the region increased by 6.4 per cent from £147.6m to £157m in 2014/15.

Out of the 47 total lawyers promoted this year, 21 are women.

The drop in the number of UKMEA promotions follows a high last year, when the firm promoted 10 lawyers, six of whom were based in London. A firm spokesperson said that the drop was a result of last year’s high number coupled with a large number of lateral hires during the year.

In London, corporate and M&A lawyer Darren Acres was promoted to partner, alongside Milton Keynes-based employment and labour lawyer Sarah Beeby and Muscat-based litigation and dispute resolution lawyer Haleem Mohammed.

Acres originally qualified in his native South Africa at Glyn Marais, which was previously a member of Dentons’ Africa group before the firm launched its own Cape Town office in 2014. He joined Dentons in 2011.

Beeby qualified at legacy Shakespeares in Milton Keynes and joined Dentons in 2008.

These promotions follow the release of Dentons’ UKMEA 2015 LLP accounts, which show that the firm’s net profit increased from £36.9m to £41.6m.

The highest-paid member at Dentons received £838,000 compared to £703,000 in 2013/14.

The promotions do not include China, which will have a separate promotions round later in the year.
