Eversheds says UK retailers must ‘plan ahead’ to make most of overseas online opportunities

Simon Jones, partner at Eversheds, has commented following findings from the BRC-Google online retail monitor that show a surge in overseas shoppers in the fourth quarter of 2013.

He said that these figures highlight the ‘amazing opportunities’ available to many of the UK’s famous retailers to exploit their reputations in key international markets via a global digital strategy without having to open new stores.

Jones continued: ‘However, all retailers looking to maximise on overseas online opportunities need to plan ahead to anticipate the demands of a global customer base and ensure they can fulfil customer demand.

‘Importantly when dealing with customers in other jurisdictions, retailers also need to be mindful of different governing laws and regulations and ensure that their digital platforms, products and services are compliant with all local regulations, while giving a customer experience that supports their brand internationally.’
