Wright, John

John Wright’s practice focuses on all aspects of construction law. His expertise in this and related fields has been recognised for many years by Legal Directories.

John Wright

Chambers and Partners has noted his “experience and considerable gravitas in major dispute resolution” and his “innate sense of good judgment”; it has described him as “calm, cool, clear and concise”; “tactically aware and experienced” and most recently in the 2013 Edition as “a star, extremely qualified and very pleasant”.

The Legal 500 has referred to him as “an exceptional lawyer – very impressive”. He is listed as one of the world’s leading construction lawyers in the 2014 Edition of the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.

Wright acts as xounsel to clients on a whole range of domestic and international construction disputes, and in addition is frequently involved in the drafting of construction contracts. He also has considerable experience in real estate and insurance disputes.

Much of Wright’s practice now involves him sitting as an arbitrator, adjudicator, mediator and dispute board member, frequently in the construction field but also encompassing disputes arising in the energy, insurance, real estate, commodity, banking and travel fields.

Wright is on the FIDIC President’s List of Approved Dispute Adjudicators and is currently sitting on a number of dispute boards in Africa and Europe. He is also listed on arbitration, adjudication and mediation panels in the United Kingdom, Dubai, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

Wright is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, having been Chairman from 2011 to 2013; he is also the immediate past co-chair of the International Construction Projects Committee of the International Bar Association.

Wright uses his extensive experience as a third party neutral to advise clients dispassionately and objectively on their disputes and also to bring a pragmatic and commercial approach to the drafting of construction documentation. His long experience of adjudication, where disputes are dealt with in a very tight time frame, enables him to grasp issues very quickly, even in the most complex of cases.
