Ron Reid is a partner who heads the regulatory team and specialises in business compliance and crisis management issues. He regularly advises and defends clients facing prosecution for corporate crime, breaches of health and safety, environmental, trading standards and other regulatory legislation.
Reid has previously advised the Health & Safety Executive on complex matters, giving him considerable insight into the enforcement process and the major causes of prosecution.
Reid additionally heads up Shoosmiths Occupational Safety (SOS) offering a comprehensive occupational safety service to clients. The emphasis is very much on pre-emptive advice and to this end services include full audits, risk assessment and training for clients.
His work with the food and drinks industry means that he regularly provides advice on everything from liquor licensing through to product recall and general food law compliance issues.
Reid has more than 35 years’ experience in the areas of law in which he specialises. He is regularly consulted by clients for advice in crisis situations and sits on client crisis management teams. He is the honorary legal adviser to the Inter-Company Consumer Affairs Association, a trade association of consumer managers in the food and drink manufacturing industry and to the London Food Club. He is secretary of the Northamptonshire Occupational Safety Health & Environment Association, a director of the Radon Council and legal adviser to SAFETYnet, an organisation dedicated to sharing best practice in the public housing sector.
Reid regularly delivers papers to regional, national and international seminars in the areas of law in which he specialises. He has delivered an extensive number of both in-house and external management training courses, which are designed and tailored to individual clients needs. He has developed e-learning courses to assist clients in a number of fields including Bribery Act compliance and Personal Safety.
Reid qualified in 1983, having previously been a F.I.L.Ex. He joined Shoosmiths in 1974, becoming partner in 1985.
He has been identified as a leader in the areas of health and safety, licensing and product liability (food) by Chambers and Partners every year since 1996.
