Since 26 May 2012 most web site operators must now ensure that they obtain the consent of anyone visiting their website before placing cookies on the visitor’s computer.

Cookies are small pieces of data sent from a web site operator and stored on a visitor’s computer. Cookies provide a useful purpose such as enabling website operators to track visits to the site and enabling items to be purchased. Cookies can also be placed on behalf of third parties, such as advertising businesses who use the cookies to track on-line activity and then target relevant adverts to the visitor based on their historic activity…
