This background informs Pickin’s view of commercial matters and gives him a broad perspective on the situations on which he is asked to advise. He remains a fellow of R3 the UK’s leading insolvency organisation.

Pickin divides his time between managing the team, advising on a wide range of business-critical contracts and building key client relationships.

Before joining Shoosmiths in 1997 he worked for Eversheds where he was a commercial partner for a number of years.

Pickin is described in the Legal 500 2011 as an outstanding client contact manager, which reflects his conviction that client relationships are central to the work of Shoosmiths.

Deals on which Andrew has advised in recent years include:

  • Experian — advice on a range of long-term contracts with Experian’s customers and suppliers.
  • John Deere (UK) — ongoing support on a range of commercial agreements with dealers and others.

Shoosmiths has three partners who have responsibility for the firm’s relationship with WSG (World Services Group). Pickin is one of these three partners. This role provides regular exposure to, and dealings with lawyers and other intermediaries from many jurisdictions across the world.

He enjoys lecturing and leading training initiatives on legal topics for both in-house lawyers and others. He is a regular speaker at both Shoosmiths’ own training events and legal seminars organised for its clients by Experian Limited.

Pickin studied law at Balliol College Oxford and obtained a BA in Jurisprudence. He studied at Chester College of Law and qualified as a solicitor in 1983.
