Bird & Bird has revealed its firmwide revenue rose by 7 per cent in the first six months of the 2015/16 financial year, while announcing plans to grow its City lawyer headcount by 25 per cent.

The firm’s 7 per cent revenue increase was calculated in euros, which is its reporting currency. Bird & Bird said it would not reveal its exact turnover figure, but confirmed its half-year results in the previous financial year were up 3 per cent when calculated in euros.

At the end of 2014/15, Bird & Bird confirmed a 6.4 per cent turnover increase from €305.6m to €325.5m, but said its revenue on a sterling basis was flat at £259m.

As well as revealing its half-year financials, the firm has also set out plans to grow its London qualified headcount by 25 per cent in the next few years.

This would see the firm have around 315 lawyers in the City and comes as the firm prepares to move into its new 147,000sq ft building in New Fetter Lane next year.

Performance is said to have been particularly strong in the Middle East and the Nordic regions. Bird & Bird also gained eight partners in Sydney over a year ago through its merger with Australian ally Truman Hoyle.
