Global litigation: it’s all about the money

Today sees the publication of The Lawyer’s annual Global Litigation Top 50, our annual analysis of which of the world’s largest firms are generating the most fee income from disputes.

To put this into context, this is a $24.35bn market we’re talking about. Topping the charts this year with a total disputes revenue of $1.09bn is DLA Piper.

One of the reasons for tracking this market is that it highlights those firms that have made boosting litigation capabilities a strategic priority. The report, which also tracks litigation and arbitration headcount across the globe, also acts as a handy guide for clients with chunky cross-border disputes.

This year we’ve ramped up the level of detail aimed at clients by including a vast amount of detail on the alternative fee arrangements the top firms are offering. Litigation may well be an engine room of firms’ earnings but for clients, keen to keep a grip on the purse-strings, it’s often the fee deals that matter and which can give a firm that competitive advantage.
