Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan is opening its fourth European office in January, launching in Paris with the hire of arbitration partner Philippe Pinsolle from Shearman & Sterling.
The Paris office will officially launch on 7 January 2013 and, like the rest of Quinn’s offices, will focus only on litigation and arbitration.
Pinsolle has been a partner at Shearman since 2001 and has a particular focus on oil and gas. He acts both as counsel and arbitrator and is also admitted as an English barrister. Pinsolle will be the managing partner of the new office.
In a statement Quinn Emanuel managing partner John Quinn said: “We represent many of the world’s leading companies. In today’s world, an ever-increasing number of their disputes are resolved by means of international arbitration. We expect that trend to accelerate in the coming years. To achieve our goal of having a world-class international arbitration practice, we had to have an office in Paris and we had to have a civil law expert.”
In the past few years Quinn Emanuel has opened offices in Mannheim (23 February 2010), Hamburg (1 May 2012) and Moscow (19 October 2011). The firm has also been hiring extensively in the arbitration field, including Allen & Overy’s global arbitration head Stephen Jagusch (9 May 2012).
