Edwards Wildman gains Hong Kong capability via local merger

US firm Edwards Wildman Palmer has obtained approval to fully integrate its associated Hong Kong firm Lister Lo Lui & Choy and has added local litigation capability by hiring partner John Yiu from Hong Kong firm ONC Lawyers.

Edwards Wildman established a presence in Hong Kong in 2006 and previously operated through an association with Lister Lo Lui & Choy. After gaining approval from the Hong Kong Law Society, the Hong Kong associated firm changed its name to Edwards Wildman Palmer on 1 January 2013 and has been fully integrated into the firm’s international network. The changes permit the US firm to provide Hong Kong legal advice under its own brand.

Corporate partner John Lo, who joined the firm from King & Wood’s Hong Kong office in 2011, serves as the partner-in-charge of the office.

At the same time as rebranding, Edwards Wildman has hired Hong Kong litigation partner Yiu from Hong Kong firm ONC Lawyers. Prior to joining the local firm, Yiu practised at various international firms, including Paul Hastings. He is experienced in handling a range of disputes, including insolvency and restructuring, employment, intellectual property and shipping. He has also acted for numerous bankers and directors of securities houses and listed companies in relation to insider dealing and market misconduct.

Yiu will be the fifth partner of Edwards Wildman’s Hong Kong office.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge merged with 150-lawyer Chicago firm Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon to form Edwards Wildman Palmer in 2011 (15 August 2011).
